Today is National POW/MIA Recognition Day. Today we honor the sacrifice given from service members and civilians of past wars. There are approximately 81,000 Americans still unaccounted for to this day, and we hope that they all may still someday be returned. Photo from our archives: February 15th, 1973. Mrs. Nancy Burer jumps into the arms of her husband, Major Arthur Burer, upon his arrival back to the United States. Major Burer was interned as a Prisoner of War in North Vietnam after being shot down on March 21, 1966, until his release on February 12th, 1973.

We are so excited to bring back this event after a short hiatus caused by the pandemic. National Vietnam Veterans Day serves as a poignant reminder to honor and express gratitude to the brave men and women who served in the Vietnam War, many of which never received a proper “Welcome Home.” This event recognizes their sacrifices, resilience, and contributions to the nation, while bringing together different communities to learn about this era of history.
