The National Veterans Art Museum lends a selection of works from its permanent collection for a special collaborative exhibition, “Behind the Uniform, an exhibition by U.S. veterans and service members”, to open at the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities Gallery (200 I (EYE) Street SE, Washington, DC) on April 4, 2025. An opening reception will be held on April 10 from 6 - 8 pm for the general public to include special remarks beginning at 6:15 pm. Doors open at 5 pm for those requiring accessibility accommodations. Kasse Andrews-Weller, grantee and curator of Behind the Uniform says, “The goal of the exhibition is to increase public awareness of military-affiliated artists who have discovered art as a resource of self expression which conveys a means of personal healing and identification.” In a collaboration by 124 artists spanning from across the country, Behind the Uniform features artwork that represents those who served, are serving and will serve and includes the voices of their families and care providers. Artists in this exhibition describe their work as being created for the purpose of self expression, community and practice. Visit the digital gallery at https://bit.ly/btu2025
