Let’s dive into the anatomy of a turkey! ?? 1. Snood: The long, red fleshy growth that hangs over the beak. 2. Ears: Small holes behind the eyes that can pinpoint sounds from up to a mile away! 3. Caruncle: The red-pink fleshy growth on the head and neck. 4. Wattle: The bright red appendage at the neck. 5. Beard: The black lock of hair found on the chest of male turkeys (toms). 6. Minnesota Senators Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith met with MN turkey farmers and veterinary health officials yesterday to address the urgent need for federal bird flu strategies that include the turkey industry. ?? With the ongoing threat of #H5N1 and avian metapneumovirus (#aMPV), the roundtable focused on advocating for indemnity funding and vaccine research support. Farmers also shared their thoughts on biosecurity audits and the need for enhanced resources to protect their flocks. The conversation highlighted the critical need for policies specifically designed to address the unique challenges faced by turkey producers. As members of the Senate Ag Committee, Ranking Member Klobuchar and Sen. Smith continue to demonstrate strong support for the turkey industry during these challenging times.
