COE MADE HISTORY!
For the last18 months, the Council for Opportunity in Education (COE) and the National TRIO Alumni Association (Official) partnered with the University of Louisiana at Lafayette (ULL) Alumni Association to install the FIRST "TRIO Alumni Legacy Chapter" named after the Late Robert L. Carmouche; called the R.L. Carmouche TRIO Alumni Chapter of the University of Lousiana at Lafayette!
In Mr. Carmouche's legacy, COE/NTAA and ULL will celebrate TRIO Alumni of ULL on August 30th; as it is proclaimed as RL Carmouche Day in Lafayette, Louisiana!
As the current Director of Special Services at UL Lafayette since 1979, Robert (R.L.) was dedicated to increasing educational opportunities for low-income and first-generation students, particularly African American students. He secured millions of dollars in funding for the University's TRIO Programs, which he initiated, and worked tirelessly to help students achieve their academic and career goals. Additionally, Robert (R.L).'s commitment to education and community service extended beyond his work at UL Lafayette.
Special thanks to Beverly Black, Special committee member of the National TRIO Alumni Association, and Amy Armstrong, Associate Vice President, University Engagement and CEO, Alumni Association for their remarkable vision and dedication to making this happen! And to our incredible, SWASAP leadership Dr. Darica Simon-Baptiste (she/her), Donta Mills, MBA, and Dr. Ashley Roman-Gregory, Ed.D.
