Are you ready to read your lines??? ? In January, we staged a free immersive experience at Manchester Arndale Centre inviting visitors to read an excerpt of a famous play with an actor based here at the National Theatre in London, live through a big screen in the middle of the shopping centre. ? It was great to see unsuspecting shoppers reading lines with the likes of Katherine Parkinson, Owen Teale, Craig Parkinson, Adrian Scarborough, Ronk? Adékolu?jo and Eliza Scanlen, celebrating the magic of event cinema. ? The experiential activation in partnership with Vue Cinemas and tpf formed part of National Theatre Live's 'The Best Seat in the House' campaign, promoting the immersive big screen experience of watching theatre in local cinemas across the world. ? ?? Today we’re celebrating the opening of Alterations, a revival of Michael Abbensetts’ era-defining comedy, directed by Lynette Linton. ???? Part of the Black Plays Archive at the National Theatre, the show features additional material by writer Trish Cooke, in the largest-ever staging of this iconic work. Featuring a brilliant cast (Arinzé Kene, Cherrelle Skeete, Karl Collins, Gershwyn Eustache Jnr, Raphel Famotibe, Richard Emerson Gould, Colin Mace, Yolanda Ovide + others), this powerful production, which explores the Guyanese experience in 1970s London, sheds light on the hopes, struggles, and sacrifices of the Windrush generation. Alterations follows Walker Holt, a tailor with big dreams, as he faces a high-stakes 24-hour deadline for an impossible client. As the tension builds, friendships and relationships unravel. Will Walker’s success be worth the personal cost? ?? Alterations is showing at the Lyttelton Theatre until 5 April 2025. ?? More info about the show can be found here: https://bit.ly/4hhqfNf ?? Do you remember a teacher that inspired you as a child or sparked an interest in something new? Last week over 100 drama teachers from across the UK attended the NT's Drama Teacher Conference at the Lowry in Salford. Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, the conference is a chance for teachers to experiment and develop their teaching practice, be inspired and connect with other teachers from across the UK. We're proud that over the past ten years, more than 1,900?teachers have attended the conference from every corner of the UK. We know how crucial the roles of teachers are?in society - not just in imparting knowledge but also in sparking imagination and inspiring young people. Drama is essential in today's classrooms because: ??it allows students to view the world from another persons' perspective ? it encourages young people to think ‘outside the box’ ? ? drama classes teach students about public speaking and team work, invaluable skills for their professional development ? Thank you to all the teachers who attended this year's conference! ? Find out more about opportunities for schools and teachers here: https://bit.ly/4hWE98k ? ??? Phil Tragen

Last night, our Patron, Her Majesty The Queen, hosted a special reception at Buckingham Palace for our brilliant community of supporters to celebrate the NT's work on stages, screens and in schools across the country and internationally. ?? ? The evening was nothing short of spectacular, with electrifying performances from Simon Russell-Beale delivering a powerful monologue from?Hamlet, the sensational Sharon D Clarke, Ncuti Gatwa, and Hugh Skinner bringing laughter and charm to a scene from? The Importance of Being Earnest, and an exhilarating musical number from the cast of?London Road. ? Last night's event was a joyful celebration of theatre at its very best. We couldn't do what we do without the incredible support of our partners. Our Stories Start Here campaign hopes to raise £125 million to enable urgent infrastructure updates to our building and ensure we can continue sparking imagination, nurturing talent and inspiring the world through theatre for generations to come. ? ??
