January marks National Winter Sports TBI Awareness Month, a time dedicated to highlighting the risks of traumatic brain injury (TBI) associated with winter sports. According to the CDC, winter sports-related TBIs contribute to a substantial number of emergency room visits each year. According to a new study, Spontaneous Headshake After a Kinematic Event or SHAAKE, is now considered a sign of concussion. When athletes exhibit this movement, they're found to have had a concussion 72% of the time.
