During Hurricane Milton, our CMAC-equipped smart pond at SR-676 in Hillsborough County performed just as designed. The system began to lower water levels 24 hours before the peak rainfall was forecast, preparing for the heavy downpour that followed. The site received an extraordinary 13.2 inches of rain in less than 24 hours, equivalent to a 200-year storm event. Importantly, the pond was able to manage this runoff effectively, even though the peak water level was caused by the adjacent Delaney Creek overtopping its banks. Because our system held back water until the creek flooded, the pond did not contribute to localized flooding in the area. We're proud of the way this technology performed, especially during such an intense event. We believe more widespread use of this technology has the potential to reduce flooding impacts in many parts of Florida. Our thoughts are with everyone affected by Hurricane Milton, and we're committed to continuing efforts to mitigate flooding and protect communities in the future. #StormwaterManagement #HurricaneMilton #FloodPrevention #Resilience #SmartPonds #NST

关于我们
National Stormwater Trust, Inc. (NST) is a stormwater management company that recently partnered with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) to provide regional stormwater treatment services for the benefit of its customers and the environment. Through this public-private partnership with FDOT, NST develops, permits, and operates regional stormwater facilities and can permanently reserve for NST customers a specified volume of stormwater treatment capacity to offset the stormwater treatment requirements associated with any size project. NST’s customers can fully develop their property without setting aside the land or capital usually required for stormwater ponds. Further, ongoing costs associated with pond maintenance are avoided. Additionally, under certain circumstances, a customer’s existing ponds may be eligible for decommissioning and redevelopment after being re-permitted in an offsite NST facility. NST has opened the Hillsborough, Pinellas, and Manatee County markets and will be opening the inventory of FDOT stormwater facilities along the Interstate I-4 corridor between Tampa and Orlando (including Orange County) market in the next 90 days. NST also can take over the management of existing stormwater facilities and create and oversee a program to generate incremental revenue for the owner. We’re currently looking for existing stormwater ponds at locations such as airports, seaports, state and local governments, education campuses, businesses, industrial and commercial parks, and retail and residential developments. How are we able to do this? By centralizing the management of a large number of regional ponds and utilizing advanced treatment technology, NST delivers efficient, professional services and improved regional water quality.

We’re proud to be featured in a recent article about a significant project in collaboration with Brightstorm/The Nature Conservancy and funded by PepsiCo, aimed at improving water quality in Florida. NST’s efforts will improve polluted stormwater capture and mitigate flood risk, resulting in significant benefits for our waterways and surrounding communities. The project has the objective of treating over 100 million gallons of water annually. We are excited to play a vital role in advancing sustainable practices that support water quality improvements in Florida. Congratulations to Syd Kitson and the entire Babcock Ranch team on this well-deserved recognition of their leadership in community resilience! #BabcockRanch is setting a powerful example of sustainable design that prioritizes BOTH innovation in smart stormwater management AND low-impact development that preserves wetlands and natural flow ways. We're thrilled to see their work highlighted and proud to support their vision for a "hurricane-proof" community! #SmartStormwater #SmartInfrastructure #StormwaterManagement
In the wake of back-to-back hurricanes Helene and Milton, #BabcockRanch founder Syd Kitson spoke with NewsNation to discuss how the community deemed as "hurricane-proof" has shown the potential of building with the land that surrounds it.
