Antigun governors seem to be doubling down on their policies after the election. Several have announced efforts to “Trump proof” their states before he takes office, vowing to protect the rights of their residents. But each governor has an abysmal record of recognizing inalienable and Constitutional rights, specifically Second Amendment rights. As President-elect Trump won approval across historically broad voting demographics, clear majorities of voters said crime and gun policies were important. Those dynamics resonated in even the bluest of Blue states as President-elect Trump received the most votes in New York City in 40 years and received more votes in California than he did in 2016 or 2020. In fact, four of the top five states that swung the most towards President Trump were New York (11.5 percent), New Jersey (10.1 percent), Massachusetts (8.7 percent) and California (8.4 percent). https://lnkd.in/gA_hiFEQ #NSSF #gunpolicy #postelection

A recent article posted by an antigun group launched an attack on a nonprofit organization dedicated to the health and well-being of children. Why? Because the charity hosted a fundraising event in which firearms were raffle prizes. They fail in their attempt to draw a nexus between charitable sportsmen’s fundraising and the criminal misuse of firearms, but they succeed in exposing the bias against lawful gun ownership. “I simply wonder how someone can become so blinded by political hate that they would rather choose criticism and unnecessary attacks to raise funds against people who make such impressionable, life-changing opportunities come to fruition,” said Art Thomm, proud member of the Divan of Beni Kedem Shriners and Director of Government Relations – State Affairs for NSSF. “This isn’t about firearm safety, folks… it’s about choosing negativity and political weaponry over goodwill in our communities and it’s disappointing, to say the least. The implications from this year’s election results are reverberating through the halls of Congress quickly. The U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee held a hearing titled How Bump Stocks and Other Conversion Devices are Amplifying the Gun Violence Epidemic, and Chairman Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) struck a noticeably different tone than his usual combative anti-Second Amendment style, seeking instead to offer to work together with Republicans in the new Congress when majority control flips sides. The hearing on gun violence and conversion devices was scarcely attended due to Republican members holding their new leadership elections, so the committee attendees were only Democratic senators. But behind the witness table were two strong Second Amendment advocates who offered clear and succinct testimony in favor of more law enforcement and protecting Constitutional rights, not more gun control on law-abiding Americans. https://lnkd.in/grWQHx9r #NSSF
