So excited to be partnering with S.C. Sea Grant Consortium on this new contaminants of emerging concern projects funded by Sea Grant! In addition to supporting two CEC research projects in the southeast, we'll be developing an innovative research-to-application partnership grant program to enhance the integration of scientific research into state policy. Can't wait to kick this off in the new year!
Sea Grant is pleased to announce two new projects receiving approximately $984,000 in federal funding to lead regional research in the Southeast and Great Lakes regions focused on addressing information needs around contaminants of emerging concern (CECs). CECs found in coastal and estuarine waters, such as pharmaceuticals and personal care products, pose significant unknown risks for both human and ecosystem health. Through continued funding, Sea Grant programs will partner with state agencies and universities to enhance research, monitoring and understanding of how these contaminants affect aquatic life and human health.
