Did you know that in 2023 workplace injuries cost U.S. employers billions of dollars with 2.6 million injury and illness cases reported according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics? Reliable data and surveillance systems properly reflecting the nature and extent of injuries are widely lacking, especially for non-fatal injuries, including musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). The NSC #MSDSolutionsLab released new guidance to help with #MSDPrevention and to #KeepEachOtherSafe. This report features common ways to categorize ergonomic injuries, injury surveillance methods, and example data dashboards and injury record keeping forms. Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/gRddX7PR.

They were parents. Spouses. Immigrants. Friends. Some of them were only teenagers. None of them deserved to lose their life. Today marks 114 years since the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire killed 146 garment workers in New York City. The impact of this tragedy on our nation has reverberated for more than a century - sparking a workplace safety movement dedicated to preventing anything like it from ever happening again. While we lose far fewer lives at work today than we did back then, the impact of a death on families, friends and loved ones remains the same. That is why we cannot stop until we eliminate preventable fatalities once and for all.

NSC has been a long-time advocate for women. As we celebrate #WomensHistoryMonth, let’s take a look back at how it all started. In 1918, NSC launched the Women In Industry section, and the first Women’s Session was held at the annual Congress event. In 1920, the Women In Industry section was featured in the National Safety News, the publication that is now Safety+Health Magazine. According to Tracy Copp, the first chair of the section, “While the chief work of this section is to organize and promote the service of the Council along the lines of women in industry, the section will also cooperate in promoting public and school safety.” Learn more about NSC initiatives that focus on supporting women in safety here: https://lnkd.in/gzHntn7Z. #WorkplaceSafety #KeepEachOtherSafe
