Reading, Pennsylvania is poised to save hundreds of thousands of dollars annually on energy costs with new solar installations. This project leverages an energy savings performance contract (ESPC), which Reading found guidance on through a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Clean Energy to Communities (C2C) peer-learning cohort. Reading’s Sustainability Manager Bethany Ayers-Fisher, said, “At the beginning of the cohort, the ESPC felt like a pipe dream. And now we see, yes, we can do this.” This year, Reading will begin construction on a 1.78-MW rooftop and parking-lot solar installation, marking a significant step toward its goal of achieving 100% renewable energy.
