??? How do we transition our current energy system to one where building help move our nation toward a clean energy future? ?? And how do we do that in a way that benefits everyone—without breaking the bank? These were the two big questions posed at NREL's 2024 Partner Forum in August. Nearly 150 innovators, energy planners, analysts, entrepreneurs, and researchers joined together at NREL to focus on the highly complex, seemingly intractable problem: decarbonizing the built environment. After winning a collegiate competition, the next step for most teams is to celebrate. But not for the policy track winners of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) 2023 #Geothermal Collegiate Competition. Their next step was to travel more than 3,500 miles to visit their partner community in Elim, Alaska. Learn about their project in our recent article ?? https://bit.ly/4g8qR8p

Photoactive molecular aggregates—complexes of two or more chromophores, which are molecules that absorb light at certain wavelengths, thereby displaying color—are of interest for biomedical, solar-energy-harvesting, and light-generating technologies. That is because—in natural photosynthesis and in bioinspired technological applications—photoactive aggregates are efficient at #energy transfer, the transport of #solar energy from one place to another. NREL researchers have synthesized two new compounds and studied how the properties of the individual molecules contribute to the—often unexpected—properties of the larger aggregates.
