The Teddington lights are on! This clock played a big part in the illumination of the town, providing a very accurate countdown to the switch on. Our CEO Peter Thompson addressed Teddington residents tonight to introduce this extraordinary clock that’s connected to our atomic clocks back at NPL, showing UTC(NPL) – the official timescale of the UK. Although many still think time comes from Greenwich and we still talk in our day to day lives about GMT and BST, the time does in fact come from us at our site in Teddington and is officially known as universal coordinated time (UTC).

Today we concluded our UK Greenhouse Gas Conference sponsored by our Greenhouse Gas Emissions Measurement and Modelling Advancement programme. ?? ?? This morning’s talks centred on sector apportionment of greenhouse gases (GHGs) whilst also looking at traceability and uncertainty of GHG measurements. The shared mission of creating a greener future together shone throw as a key takeaway for the two day conference, as well as the crucial need for continuation of funding to accelerate progress towards net zero. Many thanks to all of our partners and collaborators for their support and our speakers for their brilliant talks. Get in touch to find out how the GEMMA programme can help with your emission reduction planning and reporting: https://lnkd.in/eGGewKmp

And that’s a wrap on day one of the UK Greenhouse Gas Conference sponsored by the Greenhouse Gas Emissions Measurement and Modelling Advancement (GEMMA) programme! ????? We convened the GEMMA and wider greenhouse gas (GHG) community for an update on the UK GHG inventory and measurement improvements from all our collaborators. It was a brilliant opportunity to also gather updates from the community on connected work and advancements as well as consult on what GEMMA will look to achieve moving forward. The highlight of the day was the visit to Jodrell Bank , part of the GEMMA network measuring GHGs, where we got to see GEMMA’s greenhouse gas kit in action as well as the UK’s largest radio telescope! The GEMMA programme, led by the National Physical Laboratory, will demonstrate an integrated total of measured UK emissions displayed through a monthly national emissions dashboard. This system will allow the UK to accurately measure and assess changes in greenhouse gases, including vital information on the contribution from different sectors, and work towards decarbonising all sectors of the UK economy by 2050. Find out more about how GEMMA is ensuring confidence in realising net zero: https://lnkd.in/eGGewKmp
