National PACE? Association is celebrating its 30th anniversary and I love the story boards walking through its history, starting with On Lok as the founders of PACE. This year’s #NPA2024AC has over 1,200 attendees, 77 sessions and 66 sponsors. Oh, how far we’ve come from a small community based program in San Francisco. The National PACE Association (NPA) works to advance the efforts of Programs of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE?) so older individuals can continue living in their community. The PACE model is centered on the belief that it is better for the well-being of seniors with chronic care needs and their families to be served in the community whenever possible. PACE serves individuals who are age 55 or over, certified by their state to need nursing home care, are able to live safely in the community at the time of enrollment, and live in a PACE service area. Although all PACE participants must be certified to need nursing home care to enroll in PACE, only about 7 percent of participants nationally reside in a nursing home.

Today I was reminded about the importance of capturing the stories of the seniors in our life, how PACE can stand out among the healthcare marketplace and how Redwood Coast PACE reached their milestone of serving a rural community for 10 years. Oh, and there was a sweets bar - National PACE? Association is an association after my own heart.

It’s been an absolutely amazing first 24 hrs. of the National PACE? Association’s 2024 annual conference! ?? With generous support from McKesson, we kicked off conference week with a lively CalPACE member reception. We loved reconnecting with friends we haven’t seen in a while! This morning, Mitch Albom, author of Tuesdays with Morrie, reminded us about the importance of forgiveness, the value of giving, and the pricelessness of spending time with loved ones. ?? This afternoon, California #PACE orgs led the way during today’s educational sessions: ?? Randall Sanner and Ofra Paz from Gary and Mary West PACE showcased innovative housing partnership models. ?? John Blazek, Jeffrey Basile, Zandra Lee, and the team from On Lok described the creation of “Club 75” - an inclusive day center for LGBTQ+ older adults. ?? Melissa Hooven and Barbara LaHaie from REDWOOD COAST PACE, and Lori Frank from On Lok PACE partners, reflected on the valuable lessons learned from CA’s first and only rural PACE, after 10 years. We ended the night networking and socializing in beautiful San Diego courtesy of our friends at AnewHealth, care.coach, Dragonfly Health, Grane Rx, Intus Care, and RTZ Systems. Thanks to you all! ?? The retirement of Eileen Kunz, On Lok's Chief of Government Affairs and Compliance, was honored and celebrated today at the NPA Leadership and Awards Luncheon at the 2024 National PACE? Association Annual Conference. Eileen retired at the end of September after a remarkable and fulfilling career spanning over 38 years with On Lok.
