We’re excited to share that three NOWRDC-supported projects have been selected as finalists for Oceantic Network’s 2025 Ventus Awards! These nominations reflect the impactful work being done to advance offshore wind innovation, lower costs, and strengthen the U.S. supply chain. ? Innovation of the Year Finalist:?Saildrone and RPS Tetra Tech – Renewable Powered, Uncrewed Mobile Assets to Monitor Protected Marine Mammals Saildrone developed an innovative multi-phase NOWRDC project integrating uncrewed surface vehicles (USVs) with AI-powered marine mammal detection for real-time acoustic monitoring. ?? This approach lowers the cost of environmental monitoring and permitting while enhancing safety - offering a cutting-edge solution for responsible offshore wind development. ?? Advancement in Project Siting & Development Finalist:?Multi-fidelity Modeling of Offshore Wind Inter-array Wake Impacts to Inform Future U.S. Atlantic Offshore Wind Energy Area Development Joint Industry Project (JIP) ?? This uniquely impactful project enhances understanding of inter-array wake effects to optimize turbine layouts and maximize AEP (Annual Energy Production). By uniting government agencies, developers, National Renewable Energy Laboratory, and researchers, it improves modeling, provides evaluation tools, and informs future lease area spacing. ??? Supply Chain Advancement – Private Sector Finalist:?Crowley and Technical Validation of Existing U.S. Flagged Barges as a “Feeder” Solution for the U.S. Offshore Wind Industry This project explores the feasibility of utilizing existing U.S.-flagged barges as feeder vessels, providing a cost-saving solution to project development logistical challenges. ?? By reducing project development costs and increasing U.S. vessel opportunities, this effort supports NOWRDC’s mission to grow a robust and competitive domestic offshore wind supply chain. The Ventus Award winners will be revealed at the Ventus Gala on April 29 in Virginia Beach. Congratulations to all the finalists, and we look forward to celebrating these achievements with the industry! https://lnkd.in/efHHSWAs

?? Reflecting on a Remarkable Symposium: Thank You for Advancing Offshore Wind Together ?? Over the past two days, we had the privilege of hosting a dynamic gathering of state and federal agencies, industry leaders, international partners, researchers, and startups—each contributing to a shared vision: advancing offshore wind through research, development, and innovation. A recurring theme throughout the Symposium has been collaboration—a cornerstone of NOWRDC’s mission. From exploring public-private models to state partnerships aligning policies and frameworks, we saw firsthand how working together enhances our understanding and ensures that our projects benefit from best practices worldwide. Partnership reminds us that the challenges we face are not isolated, but part of a broader, interconnected effort to drive offshore wind advancement. Additional highlights include: ?? R&D project presentations ranging from floating offshore wind to environmental monitoring demonstrated the importance of R&D for achieving our energy goals, as well as the necessity of ensuring that our growth is both technologically advanced and socially responsible.? ?? Communicating complex R&D effectively—a crucial step in ensuring breakthroughs are understood and used by stakeholders, policymakers, and the public. ?? And a general note that sometimes, the most important conversations are the ones we have over coffee or drinks, when we take time to build relationships that inspire our next great idea. These discussions reaffirmed that NOWRDC is more than a funding entity—it is a collaborative platform driving the innovations that will power the next generation of offshore wind infrastructure. Special thanks to The Johns Hopkins University for hosting us and to the speakers and moderators for making this event a success. And a sincere thank you to everyone who joined us—both in person and online—for your dedication and expertise. Your engagement inspires us to continue shaping a sustainable and resilient energy future. #OffshoreWind #Innovation #Collaboration #Sustainability #NOWRDC
