The Tennessee State University Marching Band, better known as "The Aristocrat of Bands," made history at the 65th GRAMMYs as the first collegiate marching band and first Historically Black College or University (HBCU) to bring home a GRAMMY Award. Their groundbreaking Best Roots Gospel Album win for 'The Urban Hymnal' was a testament to the rich legacy of HBCU excellence. Visitors to the NMAAM can experience this pivotal moment in music history through a special exhibition celebrating The Aristocrat of Bands's achievement. The National Museum of African American Music, Nashville's premier institution dedicated to preserving and celebrating Black musical excellence, continues to spotlight groundbreaking artists and institutions that have shaped America's musical landscape.
