The National League of Cities is the oldest and largest national organization representing municipal governments throughout the United States. Its mission is to strengthen and promote cities as centers of opportunity, leadership, and governance. Working in partnership with the 49 state municipal leagues, the National League of Cities serves as a resource to and an advocate for the more than 19,000 cities, villages, and towns it represents. More than 1,700 municipalities of all sizes pay dues to NLC and actively participate as leaders and voting members in the organization.

At the Michigan Municipal League 2024 Convention this week, NLC CEO Clarence Anthony highlighted just a few of Michigan’s communities that have secured funding thanks to the #LocalInfrastructureHub’s grant-writing trainings. ?? Portage, MI won $76,800 for energy efficiency ?? Meridian, MI won $76,400 for energy efficiency ?? Dearborn, MI won $24.8 million for safe streets and roads The Local Infrastructure Hub (LIH) is a national program helping cities develop competitive grant applications for federal funding. Through this program, local governments throughout the country have secured $275 million in federal grant funds! “There was a big, wide awakening…we need to learn to work together, not only within our city, but with surrounding cities and agencies, because we're all in this together. If something terrible happens, we need to work together to keep ourselves safe.” Former NLC President and Former Mayor of City of Minnetonka Karen J Anderson reflected in a recent interview on how the tragic events of September 11, 2001 redirected the priorities of her city and the organization. Today, we pause to remember that day. The National League of Cities honors the thousands of innocent lives lost and the bravery of the first responders who rushed into harm's way. We will never forget.
