#MemorialMonday, when we highlight a line-of-duty death from this date in history. Today we remember Police Officer Rodney Scott Smith from the Hickman Police Department, who drowned when his patrol vehicle was washed into a flooded field. Officer Smith was checking on the area due to an overflowing creek, Bayou de Chien. His body and patrol vehicle were located separately in a flooded field the following morning. Please consider supporting us in our mission to honor the more than 24,000 law enforcement heroes whose names adorn our sacred #memorial, including Officer Smith who died on March 3, 2018. The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund depends on the support of a special group of volunteers: Ambassadors. The NLEOMF Ambassador Program identifies individuals in law enforcement across the nation who believe passionately in our mission to honor the fallen, tell the story of American law enforcement, and make it safer for those who serve. Ambassadors demonstrate this commitment by building awareness and generating support for the organization, while giving officers the opportunity to participate—firsthand—in honoring the men and women whose names are engraved on the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial. Last Friday, the law enforcement community lost retired Special Agent Clint Hill at the age of 93. Mr. Hill visited the Memorial and Museum many times over the years and attended countless events to support the opening of the Museum in 2018. Let us all take a moment of silence to remember his many contributions to the law enforcement profession. May he rest in peace. #MemorialMonday, when we highlight a line-of-duty death from this date in history. Today we remember Corporal Nathaniel Carrigan from the Park County Sheriff's Office, who was shot and killed while part of an eight-member team assigned to serve a high-risk eviction notice. After the officers arrived on the scene, the suspect came out onto the rear porch, paused, and went back into the house. Officers quickly followed the suspect inside. The suspect opened fire and shot Corporal Carrigan and wounded two other deputies. The suspect was also killed in the exchange of gunfire. Please consider supporting us in our mission to honor the more than 24,000 law enforcement heroes whose names adorn our sacred #memorial, including Corporal Carrigan who died on February 24, 2016.
