The National Labor Exchange (NLx) is a public workforce system tool and the trusted source for job postings in the United States. Administered and operated through a unique public-private partnership between NASWA and DirectEmployers Association (DE)— the NLx provides millions of online job postings from vetted employers at no cost to support the public workforce system and its customers across the country. All 50 states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories participate in the NLx, with hundreds of thousands of employers and millions of jobseekers benefitting from its offerings every day. The NLx is governed by a steering committee consisting of employers and state workforce agencies and leverages its public-interest technology, data, expertise, and networks to operationalize its vision of improving the understanding the current labor market and the efficiency of labor exchange to better serve the country’s diverse workforce.

We are accepting applications for the Enhancing Labor Market Insights with Jobs Data Applied Data Analytics (ADA) training program. We are excited to announce a fully-funded training program, developed in collaboration with the National Association of State Workforce Agencies (NASWA), the National Labor Exchange (NLx) Research Hub, and the Multi-State Data Collaborative (MSDC), focusing on job demand data use and aligning it with skills and credentials in state administrative data that will be offered in both October 2024 and January 2025. This program focuses on job demand data use and how to align it to skills and credentials in state administrative data. By the end of the course, participants will be equipped with the tools and experience necessary to create data products and actionable insights that: ?? Enhance Existing Labor Market Information (LMI) Efforts: Supplement traditional labor market data sources with innovative methods to improve occupational forecasts. ?? Communicate Labor Market Needs: Effectively convey the evolving demands of labor markets across the nation. ?? Align Skills and Credentials with Job Demand: Examine how skills and credential attainment align with job demand by industry, geography, and worker characteristics. Always great to go to the National Association of State Workforce Agencies annual summit with 1000 colleagues from around the country. Did a terrific session with my brilliant NJ counterpart, Lesley Hirsch. We did a session together with Paul Daniels talking about the incredible opportunity that the National Labor Exchange Research Hub provides to better understanding the labor market and needs of employers with a decade of national job posting data. The Research Hub started with unstructured data you could work with via API and now they just announced an enhancement developed with the People eXperience Center for Technology and Science Community Innovation to extract and convert into a structured data set that is much easier to work with. Everything Lesley and I have been doing with the NLx has been from the unstructured data product. I can't want to start working with the new structured data and I have an interdisciplinary team of 4 from my division that will be working on a project as part of a data analytics training series from Coleridge Initiative that will focus on the NLx data. Many of us thinking about the next generation of LMI see the the NLx as a critical resource for supplementing traditional LMI data and bring out features like skills needs to inform employers, workers/students, economic development organizations, education/training providers, and policymakers/elected officials.
