When Ernie Falbo was diagnosed with Stage 4 kidney disease at age 79, finding a living kidney donor didn't seem likely. But in a striking example of what can be accomplished by reaching out to your network of friends and acquaintances (in Ernie's case, his local Lions Club), Ernie ended up with 150 people interested in donating. When one of Michael Culley's close-knit group of friends needed a kidney transplant, several members of the group got tested. Eventually, everyone was eliminated. Michael didn't think he could be the donor because he wasn't a blood type match, but then his friend told him about paired donation. He donated his kidney to a stranger on March 14, 2024, generating a voucher for his friend. As an infant, Henry Coulter suffered from kidney disease, which led to him spending three days a week on dialysis as a teenager. Monica Leger, a retired Army National Guard Major, wanted to donate a kidney and found out she was a match for Henry. After living with kidney failure for five years, Linda McGrane has a new chance for a healthy life. Michael Noice, who moved from Tennessee to Cincinnati, moved in next door to the McGranes and was willing to donate a kidney on Linda's behalf.
