??BREAKING?? President Trump's Executive Order takes a major step toward reimposing the travel ban. No later than 60 days (March 20), Trump’s administration will issue a report recommending "a partial or full suspension on the admission of nationals” from targeted countries. Iran was subject to prior bans. Ominously, this order initiates a process to deport some individuals from nations subject to the ban who were lawfully admitted in recent years. Details are not clear yet, but if implemented broadly it could represent a major threat to many individuals’ rights. We are pleased to report that Congressman Jeff Van Drew has now officially retracted this claim that an "Iranian mothership" was sending drones into New Jersey airspace. Unfortunately, fear mongering and animus about Iran and Iranians is common in Congress, but Iranian Americans have organized across the country to call it out and hold elected officials accountable. From Senator Lindsey Graham saying he would be horrified to discover he had Iranian heritage. Senator James Risch suggesting all Iranians are liars. Senator Susan Collins sharing that she initially believed January 6 was "the Iranians" attacking. At a time of heightened tensions in which war hawks are openly calling for the U.S. to attack Iran, now is not the time to be quiet or carefully pick our spots – we need to do what it takes to prevent a war, full stop.
