In a recent interview with Scripps News, NIC’s Head of Research & Analytics, Lisa McCracken, spoke to the supply and demand dynamics for senior housing over the next few years, and what can be done to meet the housing needs of the Baby Boomer generation beginning to turn 80 next year. McCracken noted the need for more development after years of capital cost constraints, and the need to draw additional capital into the sector. To address affordability gaps, particularly for the middle market consumer, she noted the need for innovation and the potential for public/private partnerships. #seniorhousing

?? Senior housing occupancy increased 0.7 percentage points in the third quarter of 2024 to 86.5%, according to just released NIC MAP Vision data reported by NIC. While more older adults are living in senior housing than ever before, with total occupied units reaching a new high of more than 611,000, the third quarter saw the fewest spaces under construction since 2014.
