On November 13, NIH hosted an international cohort of rheumatologists and rheumatology professionals for the 2024 Global Research Exchange Program. The Global Research Exchange Program is an annual event sponsored by the European Alliance of Associations for Rheumatology, the Asia Pacific League of Associations for Rheumatology, and the American College of Rheumatology. The visit—organized by Dr. Mariana Kaplan of NIAMS—brought together early-stage investigators to learn about research conducted at NIH and provided networking opportunities to enhance research collaboration. Program participants also delivered research presentations and received feedback from field experts, toured the NIH, and took part in mentoring sessions with top NIH researchers. Last month, a White House workshop showcased how NIH is harnessing interdisciplinary research and innovation to accelerate and improve health for all women. NIAMS is hosting José Guillermo Cede?o Laurent from Rutgers School of Public Health who will bring to the Institute his expertise in: - climate change and environmental exposures - extreme heat and wildfire-related air pollution health impacts - mechanical engineering - environmental health - exposure assessment tools - evidence-based climate mitigation and adaptation interventions The purpose of the NIH Climate and Health Scholars Program is to connect climate and health scientists from outside the federal government with NIH researchers to share their knowledge and expertise in this important field.
