Speak up for HUD! On Monday, March 10, we're joining a national day of action to protect homeless services funding. Keep an eye open on Monday morning for resources to help you call your elected officials and ask them to stop reckless cuts to @HUDgov's staff and budget! #HandsOffHousing

In recent weeks HUD has pulled all kinds of research on addressing homelessness off the exchange, but some gems are still floating out there. One of those that shaped my work is Abt Associates study on the the cost of addressing encampments. LOOK AT THE NUMBERS!! Encampment-to-housing work is not only a social justice issue, it’s an economic one. Cities pay MILLIONS to sustain homelessness by sweeping people from one camp to the next and attempting to tuck people away in shelters. But for the same cost we can house people directly and end the cycle. The U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness (USICH) cited the work we did in Houston to rehouse encampment residents using the Coordinated Entry system in their Federal Strategic Plan, #ALLIN. I oversaw dozens of these encampment closures and personally rehoused hundreds of the people - many who the system had deemed unhouseable. The evidence is in, and the outcomes are clear. The Oklahoma House and Senate are considering a series of bills that will have profound and far reaching consequences for our neighbors experiencing homelessness.
