The Health and Social Care Professions (HSCP) are the second largest clinical group in the Irish health service. There are currently 26 Health and Social Care Professions, spanning therapeutic, social care and diagnostic domains. HSCP work in all settings including acute, community, disability, specialist, mental health, primary care and residential services. HSCPs are highly qualified and skilled and play a significant role in the health, wellbeing and quality of life of the population.

The National Health & Social Care Professions Office was established in 2017 under the HSE clinical function building and expanding on the original HSCP Education and Development Unit (2006-2016). The National HSCP Office strategically leads and supports HSCP to maximise their potential and to achieve the greatest impact for the design, planning, management and delivery of people centred, integrated care. The Office represent 26 Health and Social Care Professions spanning therapeutic, social care and diagnostic domains. HSCP work in all settings including acute, community, disability, specialist, mental health, older people, primary care and residential services. HSCP Deliver: A Strategic Guidance Framework for Health & Social Care Professions 2021-2026 was co-created to articulate the impact of the full collective potential of the 26 HSCP on our health services and the population they serve. It also describes the commitments that HSCP collectively make to delivering on that potential and the supports and actions required form colleagues and other specific relevant stakeholders to realise this potential.
