Last week, we released an episode of NHF Insights, Impact of High Stress Frontline Professions on People with Migraine, highlighting the challenges and solutions for frontline workers managing migraine. Frontline workers; emergency responders, healthcare providers, and educators, face incredible challenges managing migraine while balancing demanding professions. 74% of frontline professionals cannot risk having a migraine attack, often working through pain in situations where stepping away isn’t an option. Dr. Hope O'Brien, MD, MBA and Dr. Merle Diamond explore how migraine impact productivity and career choices, with data showing that nearly half of emergency service workers stop acute treatments because they take too long to work. They discusses practical solutions, like advocating for “safe rooms” at work, educating patients on faster-acting treatments, and ensuring frontline workers feel supported, not isolated, when managing their health. For over 50 years, our mission at the National Headache Foundation has been to further awareness of headache and migraine as legitimate neurobiological diseases. With aid from advanced technology and clinical innovation, there are more care and treatment options than ever before. NHF understands that these diseases are still largely misunderstood, underdiagnosed, and undertreated. Additionally, the personal and societal burdens of pain, disability, diminished quality of life and financial cost is under-recognized. We are honored to have you on this journey, as there is so much we can do together.

American Indian and Alaska Native (AIAN) Veterans have served in the U.S. military for over 200 years, contributing at five times the national average. Many also dedicate their lives to Federal, State, local, and tribal law enforcement, prioritizing our safety. This proud legacy often comes with unique health challenges, including migraine and headache. In fact, AIAN have the highest prevalence of migraine and headache disorders. Yet, AIAN veterans are the most underserved group within the VA, with high rates of military service but lower utilization of VA assistance.
