Braving blizzards and bitter cold, #NatGeoExplorer Jeff Kerby and his team trekked to Inuit Qeqertaat in Greenland — the last stretch of land at the top of the globe — to record signs of life and create a digital map of the region. The flora and fauna here mark the furthest limits of life, but these borders are shifting as the poles warm. Identifying species at land’s true edges gives humans a point of reference to track as the planet evolves. “And how can we all contribute to figuring out the fundamental processes that shape more hidden edges for species across the world?” Kerby asks. The National Geographic Society’s headquarters has a surprising history. It has expanded from a single structure to an entire campus, with construction underway for the newly reimagined National Geographic Museum of Exploration.
