Every year, Houston City Hall and buildings across the country light up in the colors of the National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA) during Eating Disorders Awareness Week. It’s one of the most meaningful times of the year for me.
Before I found out I was pregnant with Penelope, I was struggling with a relapse. But when I realized there was a tiny life depending on me, I knew I had to get better—not just for myself, but for her. It feels almost meant to be that she was born in 2016 during Eating Disorders Awareness Week.
The blue and green lights are a reminder that we’re not alone. They represent a community that understands and supports one another. If you’re struggling, know that these lights shine for you.
