The vision of the NDSC is a world with equal rights and opportunities for people with Down syndrome.

关于我们

We are the National Down Syndrome Congress, known around the world as NDSC. We are the leading national resource of support and information for anyone touched by or seeking to learn about Down syndrome, from the moment of prenatal diagnosis through adulthood. NDSC is a member-sustained non-profit organization, composed of parents, self-advocates, siblings, grandparents, educators, physicians, therapists, other professionals, friends, and supporters. Our purpose is to promote the interests of people with Down syndrome and their families through advocacy, public awareness, and information. Often, a family’s first interaction with the NDSC comes from a phone call as a new or expectant parent. This can begin a lifelong relationship with the NDSC, as our programs and resources are available to individuals with Down syndrome and their families at every step of the way. Our services are available in both English and Spanish.

The U.S. Department of Education released Using Functional Behavioral Assessments to Create Supportive Learning Environments, guidance to help schools and early childhood programs better support students’ behavioral needs. This guidance focuses on evidence-based practices to support students, with or without disabilities, whose behavior interferes with learning, and is part of the Department’s effort to reduce exclusionary discipline. Click here to read: https://lnkd.in/eWEHWXcm The guidance, developed by the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSERS) and the Office of Elementary and Secondary Education (OESE), provides educators and families with information, tools, and resources to support the broader use of Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA) and behavioral plans for students with and without disabilities. The guidance describes an FBA, addresses common characteristics of an FBA and behavioral plans, explains how FBAs can inform instructional strategies, identifies guiding principles to support effective development and implementation, highlights federal funding sources for educator training related to FBAs, and provides technical assistance resources to support implementation. The Department will host a webinar on December 3, 2024 at 1pm (ET) to share information about the guidance. Register:?https://lnkd.in/edXGw7mN

This week, NDSC Board Member Bradley Carlisle was awarded the 2024 Flame of Hope award at the Georgia State Capitol, presented by Commissioner Kevin Tanner and the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities. The Flame of Hope Award recognizes individuals throughout Georgia who “fan the flames of hope” and further DBHDD’s mission and values. This year, only ten award winners were selected out of 150 nominations from community leaders, board members, staff, affiliated organizations, and providers. Bradley, we are so proud of this incredible accomplishment! You are fantastic, and we are grateful to have you on our team. #NDSC #downsyndrome
