  • The Cowboy will have a $313 million impact on the Oklahoma City Metro and the State of Oklahoma economies between 2019 and 2028 according to an economic impact study commissioned this summer. This shows we’re not only a cultural landmark but also a vital economic engine for the city and the state. This is no small feat. It fuels our drive here at The Cowboy, and we're proud to share the significant impact we’re making together. With a bold vision for the future, we're charging ahead, thanks to our relationships with local business partners, loyal members and many guests. To all of you—thank you for being part of this momentum. Read the full study here: https://lnkd.in/db32jay5

  • President Theodore Roosevelt, also known as the "Cowboy President," is a shining example of a core pillar of the Code of the West: Always finish what you start. At The Cowboy, we celebrate the Code of the West, a universal set of human values tied to the history of the American West and applicable to everyone. Every day, we give guests to the Museum a chance to learn about the people in history who embody the Code. Reminding ourselves of how they lived it can be a great lesson. Roosevelt had close ties with the West. Through his hunting experience, he saw firsthand how much the country's bison population had dwindled. When he won reelection in 1904, he was determined to preserve the "most characteristic animal of the Western Plains." During his second term, Roosevelt established the Wichita Forest and Game Preserve as the nation's first refuge for big game. He partnered with the American Bison Society to support bills protecting the species, eventually leading to the revival of bison herds throughout the West, keeping them from extinction. ??: Teddy Roosevelt raising his hat, 1911 (approx.), Photographic Study Collection, RC2007.115.1
