When you give to SVdP this #GivingTuesday, December 3, you’re giving love, help, and hope to our neighbors in need across the country. Your generosity helps us feed the hungry, helps keep the lights on, helps families avoid eviction and stay in their homes. And this year, your gift will go TWICE as far! A generous benefactor will match all gifts up to $150,000, doubling your gift and bringing twice as much love and support to those who need it most during the holidays. "No work of charity is foreign to the Society."
关于我们
A worldwide network of 800,000 lay Catholics, we are inspired by Gospel values to grow in holiness and build a more just world through personal relationships with and service to people in need. We are men and women of every age, every race, every income level, who share our blessings of time, talent, and treasure with those who need help and hope. From our thrift stores and food pantries, to disaster recovery and prison reentry, to advocacy and systemic change, we serve our communities however they need it most. No work of charity is foreign to the Society. Like the Good Samaritan, we’re ready to help anyone regardless of religion, age, or background. The National Council serves nearly 90,000 faith-filled Vincentian volunteers across the country, providing resources, spiritual formation, and best practices for more than 4,000 local Conferences and 500 Councils across the country.

#ThankfulThursday: Our hearts are full of gratitude for those we serve. So often, our Vincentian volunteers go into a Home Visit or serve a neighbor in the food pantry, and we seek to alleviate our neighbor's hardship, but more often in that encounter OUR HEARTS are the ones that are transformed for good. Thank you to our neighbors (all 5 million of you this year!) who give us the opportunity to serve with compassion and grow in holiness. Tell us below how YOUR Conference or Council serves neighbors in need in your community!

This weekend, 26 Vincentians from across the country gathered for the Invitation for Renewal weekend at a retreat center in St Louis. Invitation for Renewal is a twice annual leadership formation program for current and emerging Vincentian leaders intended to provide an immersion in the spirit of Vincent, Louise, Frédéric and Rosalie. Participants left feeling inspired to return home and renew the spirit of their Conference and Council. The next retreat will be held in July 2025. Spirituality. Friendship. Service. We are the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. #svdp #ssvp #societyofsaintvincentdepaul #volunteering #giving #poverty #povertyawareness #lovethyneighbor #weareSVdP #catholic #friendship #spirituality #service #catholicmemes

#ThankfulThursday: We are so GRATEFUL to the everyday saints who partner in our mission to serve the poorest in our communities. Your giving joins with the work of our Vincentians to bring friendship, listening, and hope, and together we are enabled to care for millions of neighbors in need every year. Whether you are a monthly donor, made a tax-free gift through your IRA, donated a vehicle through our CARS program, or have left a planned gift in your estate, we appreciate you for the important work you support. If you're not already a donor, we ask you: Will you be a partner in our mission to alleviate suffering and promote dignity to those most in need?

It costs an average of $35,578 per year to support a person who is chronically homeless, including costs for emergency shelters, healthcare, and law enforcement. In contrast, preventing homelessness permanently through early intervention costs, on average, $2,000. In 2023, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul mobilized $60 million in emergency financial assistance to prevent evictions and keep people housed. Every dollar invested in prevention saves up to five dollars in costs associated with homelessness. And keeping individuals and families housed promotes healthier, more stable communities. Involvement in the Getting Ahead program at St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore was incredibly rewarding for Vincentian Rick Opatick. The 20-week self-advocacy program directly impacted the lives of its 9 participants and its facilitators too. “A pre-school teacher had lost her job and become homeless,” Rick recounts. “Through the [Getting Ahead] program, she regained hope, a community and direction..."
