?? Who’s funding #CPCs? ?#Crisis #Pregnancy #Centers (CPCs) are growing their influence with #funding from individuals, churches, state budgets—and increasingly, philanthropy.?? Between 2016–2021, foundation funding for CPCs nearly doubled, jumping from $97M to $180M, and outpacing the 30% growth in their total revenue. Much of this funding flows through public charities and donor-advised funds (DAFs), which allow wealthy donors to funnel millions without transparency or accountability.?? But it’s more than just dollars. Many funders of CPCs hold deeply conservative or religious ideologies, equating birth control to “abortion-causing drugs” or even comparing abortion to slavery. This funding bolsters a coordinated movement that not only undermines reproductive rights but also reinforces broader efforts to roll back progress on race, gender, and economic equity.?? ?? Dive into our recent posts for our latest research and stay tuned for our forthcoming analysis on philanthropy funding regression instead of progress. #ReproductiveJustice #Philanthropy #AbortionAccess?

As recent policy shifts threaten the very fabric of our nonprofit sector, it's clear that the time for philanthropy to step up is now. Nearly 70% of 585 nonprofit leaders report being negatively impacted by these changes, with organizations like Better Tomorrow feeling defeated and unsafe. Lauren Hughes, Director of Development at Better Tomorrow captures the sentiment perfectly: “I am not sure how we are going to persevere for another 47 months, but we’re dedicated to continue serving our communities in need and will need donors to step up and answer the call.” In these challenging times, funders must commit to the broad multi-year general operating support that empowers communities to organize, advocate, and build power. This moment is an opportunity for philanthropy to truly make a difference by investing in those who are on the frontlines of change. Fund like social justice is on the line—because it is. ??The American Prospect: Right-Wing Donors Spent $1 Billion to Suppress Votes in 2024?? This wasn't just a bad election cycle-it was bought and paid for. NCRP's latest research, led by our CEO Aaron Dorfman, exposes how conservative foundations and wealthy donors funneled over $1 billion into nonprofits that purge voter rolls, restrict ballot access, and silence voters. ?? We can't wait until the midterms to act. As Aaron says,"If we want to ensure that every eligible American who wants to vote can do so and will have their vote counted, the time to invest is now." ?? When billionaires control the narrative, justice is always at risk. Mark Zuckerberg’s Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI) assured staff and the public that its DEI commitments would continue—only to quietly gut its internal inclusion efforts and scrub its social advocacy commitments. This is part of a large pattern of performative philanthropy, where bold promises are made in moments of crisis, only to be abandoned when the spotlight fades.?https://bit.ly/43AAk4l We’ve seen this before. Billionaire philanthropists position themselves as climate, justice, and equity experts while hoarding power and wealth. Our Filthy Five report called this out—how the richest donors shape philanthropy to serve their own interests rather than supporting the real, frontline leaders doing the work.?https://bit.ly/4bX6LuU The pattern is clear: philanthropy led by billionaires is not accountable to the people most impacted by injustice. It’s time for funders to shift power and put resources into the hands of grassroots movements. Read more on how philanthropy’s silence and inaction uphold systemic injustices: ?? During the Dorothy A. Johnson Center’s ‘11 Trends in Philanthropy for 2025’ webinar, our President and CEO, Aaron Dorfman, delivered a powerful message: “We are outgunned. For 50 years, anti-democracy agendas have been advanced through systematic funding by those opposed to our values.” Let’s get strategic and bold about funding the future we believe in, be less squeamish about our investments in democracy. When we rally together, we can forge a path forward that upholds our democratic values!?? ?Watch the full webinar here:?https://bit.ly/4bGDPZn?#Philanthropy
