The Symposium keynote speaker will be Dr. Roxana Chicas, Assistant Professor at Emory University, Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing. Dr. Chicas’ holds expertise in nephrology, as well as occupational and environmental health. Her work has been featured in Bloomberg News, NPR, and The World. She has also worked with the Center for American Progress and the Alliance of Nurses for Healthy Environment to address the issue of climate change. In this keynote address, Dr. Chicas will discuss various preventative, occupational, and environmental health issues that create significant barriers to safe working and living conditions for agricultural workers. Dr. Chicas will explore how collective action and collaboration among healthcare professionals, community organizations and community health workers can lead to improvements in health and safety.
