Last night, a broad group of community members, including elected, business, clergy, and Scout leaders, attended the John D. Jenkins Good Scout Award Evening to honor Carlos Castro, Cheryl Macias, and Marion Wall with Good Scout Awards because they exemplify the ideals of the Scout Oath and Law. Eagle Scout Sam S. spoke about his Scouting journey, " Scouts has not only guided me to learn all about ethics and leadership tactics but it has also taught me about myself. Before Scouting I was just a kid looking to spend time outdoors. Now, a 17-year-old Eagle Scout, I know that my life's purpose is to lead others embodying the points of the Scout Oath and Law." "As a former Boy Scouts fundraiser and Eagle Scout, he said he tried to prepare for all contingencies." It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Thomas J. Donohue, the former President and CEO, U.S. Chamber of Commerce, who expanded the organization's influence across the globe. Mr. Donohue was an active and dedicated supporter of NCAC and Scouting for many years. He served on the Council Executive and Advisory Boards and was honored with a Distinguished Eagle Scout Award in 2003 and a Good Scout Award in 2016. Yesterday, our Council gathered to celebrate the incredible spirit of our community as we continually work to make sure there are no barriers to Scouting for all youth. During the Whitney M. Young, Jr. Service Awards Luncheon at the University Club, four honorees - both individuals and organizations - were recognized for their efforts on behalf of youth, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
