  • A delegation of leaders from the National Audubon Society, led by Chief Conservation Officer Marshall Johnson, is currently in Chile for a week-long visit, engaging in a series of strategic meetings and gatherings with partners, donors, and both local and national authorities. On this visit, they’re supporting the work that the Audubon Chile team has been carrying out on coastal resilience and the Americas Flyways Initiative, to secure greater support for the development of bird, habitat, and migratory route conservation efforts. This visit marks a significant milestone: the formal establishment of Audubon in Chile. As part of Audubon’s broader hemispheric mission, this step underscores the organization’s commitment to protecting the places where migratory birds rest and feed, before starting their journeys back north. Safeguarding these sites is critical not only for maintaining the ancient balance of migratory bird populations, but also because birds are vital indicators of ecosystem health—making their conservation essential for preserving the natural world.

  • Recently, Audubon Florida released their summary of the annual South Florida Wading Bird Report. System-wide wading bird nesting in 2022 and 2023 was significantly lower compared to the exceptional highs of 2018 and 2021. However, 2022-2023 levels still demonstrate a steady increase in wading bird nesting in the Everglades—a result of ongoing restoration efforts. Read more: bit.ly/3QMcg7d

  • The National Environmental Policy Act has protected wildlife, birds, and communities for nearly 50 years. However, a new proposal could drastically change this critical law and result in inconsistent regulations, delays, and higher costs. The proposal also removes important requirements, like considering the cumulative impact of projects and limiting community input. Read more about the impact the changes could have on birds, people, and local economies. We need to ensure our environment and public health are not sidelined. Join Audubon in calling for a rejection of these proposed changes. bit.ly/4217wji

  • The newly released State Of The Birds report for the U.S. reveals continued declines in North American bird populations. The report identifies 112 Tipping Point species—including the Allen’s Hummingbird, Tricolored Blackbird, and Saltmarsh Sparrow—that have lost half their populations in the past 50 years, 42 of which now have perilously low numbers. But it’s not too late to take action for birds. Audubon worked with a coalition of partners to summarize the latest science on birds to ensure their long-term health in the places where you live.
