This week’s theme is Home Heating. Did you know heating is the second leading cause of home fires with nearly half of those occurring in December, January, and February. #HeatingFireSafety #FireSafetyTips #FirePrevention https://lnkd.in/eRYYcyw

November 21,1980 – MGM Grand Hotel Fire On this day in 1980 a fire at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino killed 85 people, most through smoke inhalation. The fire was caused by an electrical ground fault inside a wall socket in The Deli Restaurant. The fire quickly spread to the casino which was filled with flammable furnishings, moldings, and construction material. Flames blew through the doors in a huge fireball. Due to faulty smoke dampers, toxic fumes circulated throughout the hotel’s air conditioning system. Fire department equipment could only reach the ninth floor of the 26-story hotel, leaving many guests trapped on the upper floors. Many guests evacuated to the roof where they were rescued by local police and Air Force helicopters. At the time of the event about 5,000 people were staying at the hotel. It took first responders about four hours to evacuate the entire facility. The casino and restaurants were not protected by a fire sprinkler system because they were exempt from rules requiring fire sprinklers in areas occupied 24 hours a day. A Clark County building inspector granted the exemption despite the opposition of fire marshals. When the fire broke out, The Deli Restaurant was no longer open 24 hours per day. Because of this incident and another one 81 days later, there was a major reformation of fire safety guidelines and codes. All buildings open to the public in Nevada were required to have fire sprinklers, smoke detectors in rooms and elevators, and exit maps in all hotel rooms. #FireHistory #NeverForget

When cooking, make sure your clothing doesn't catch fire. Wear short sleeves or roll them up and be cautious with loose fitting clothing. #CookSafely #StandByYourPan #FireSafetyTips #FirePrevention

Stay in the cooking while you are cooking. Make sure you are awake and alert. Alcohol and some drugs can make you sleepy. #CookSafely #StandByYourPan #FireSafetyTips #FirePrevention

Watch what you are cooking. Fires start when the heat is too high. If you see any smoke or the grease starts to boil, turn the burner off. #CookSafely #StandByYourPan #FireSafetyTips #FirePrevention https://lnkd.in/ejHSUZjw
