States like Indiana, Missouri, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia are expanding work-based learning opportunities to reach more students. Here's how: * Indiana now requires students to demonstrate employability skills before graduation; * Virginia, Indiana, and?Texas offer diploma seals for WBL participation; * North Carolina and Virginia support specialized high schools with strong career pathways; * Missouri incorporates WBL into school accountability systems; and * Tennessee and North Carolina align graduation requirements with employer needs. Half of high school students feel unprepared for life after graduation, according to recent surveys. To bridge this gap, states are expanding work-based learning—including internships, apprenticeships, and civic projects—to connect classroom learning with real-world skills.
