But siloed data gets in the way of stakeholders being able to use critical information to support students. Today is the day! NASBE is out with a brand new issue of the State Education Standard, exploring emerging issues in education technology. In it, authors from organizations like SETDA, Data Quality Campaign, ISTE, Foresight Law + Policy, PLLC, and researchers from Stanford University, Arizona State University, Civic Engagement Research Group, and others urge state leaders to set their sights on ways to broaden access to technology’s benefits, solve problems confronting educators, and protect students against the risks of misuse. Twenty-four states reserve a seat for students on the state board. These students need to be proactive and receive mentorship to be effective in their state board roles. What's in a state strategic plan anyway? State boards of education develop strategic plans to set long-term goals for K-12 education. But, our new analysis reveals a shift toward learning recovery and other pandemic-related issues. We feature Missouri and Washington's work, among other states. In a recent Office Hours, Missouri state board member Pamela Westbrook-Hodges noted: “As we moved through the pandemic … we looked at the plans and challenges, and saw a disconnect. We realized that the plans weren’t keeping up with how the world was shifting and how the educational climate was shifting.” Read the analysis here: https://lnkd.in/eR4CYBQk

We're glad to be participating in Learning Policy Institute's Whole Child Policy Roundtable convening this week, connecting state leaders and showcasing great state board work happening across the country! Our team, along with our friends at GRAD Partnership, led a terrific panel on redesigning #highschool through a #wholechild vision, where board members from Kentucky and Utah shared about their Portrait of a Graduate work, and how catalyzing transformative changes in students’ high school experience. “You don’t redesign until you reimagine. We lose all the brain trust of the high school experience if we don’t listen to students now,” said Kentucky State Board Vice Chair Lu Young. ?
