On Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day, NANN offers support to all families experiencing loss and sends strength to all neonatal nurses providing care and compassion in the toughest moments.

Congratulations to Megan Flynn, MSN RN CNL RNC-NIC C-ELBW NE-BC, on her abstract, “Initiation of Patient Centered Cue Based Cares in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit,” featured at the 19th Annual Research Summit in Orlando, Florida, made possible through Reckitt/Mead Johnson Nutrition! Analyzing the connection between NICU sleep disruption and prevention of proper neurodevelopment, Megan’s research study evaluated if bedside nurses implementing sleep protection protocols via the Neonatal Sleep Wake Assessment Tool (NeoSWAT) would result in cue-based care. After auditing 75 charts pre- and post-implementation, timing and frequency of nursing groups, and more, the study resulted in increased rest periods for vulnerable neonates by educating nurses about neonatal sleep and the benefits of using the NeoSWAT tool.
