A new policy brief from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities "shows that we can solve homelessness if we address its primary driver: the gap between incomes and rent." https://lnkd.in/eVn5g8P3

New from National Low Income Housing Coalition: The Gap report reveals that only 35 affordable & available homes exist for every 100 extremely low income households. Combining existing renters' needs with the number of people experiencing homelessness, this adds up to a nationwide shortage of close to 7.7 million homes for extremely low income people. And when accounting for people who are doubled up in housing with friends or family members, this number swells to as high as a 11.4 million rental unit shortage. The takeaway is clear: there is simply not enough affordable housing to meet the current need, and more people are becoming homeless because of it. New analysis from Joy Moses, Dennis Culhane, and Matthew Fowle sheds light on the estimated cost to connect every U.S. household in shelter with a permanent housing placement (in alignment with the Housing First model).
