Did someone say 2.5 million? ????????
NACEP's Hot Takes ?? on the NEW IPEDS dual enrollment data...#3 Where did a million-ish “new” dual enrollment students spawn from? Well... the new data are FULL (year), not FALL (semester). It is totally possible these students were there all along. These new numbers are a full academic year, not just fall. Those of you who attend NACEP's annual Washington Policy Seminar (where we discuss national data sets and more), or are tuned into CCRC's blog posts on dual enrollment growth, will note that Fall 2021 data was our best estimate for participation. BUT those data are just for the fall semester (and use student age as an approximation for DE students, not the same as having IHEs report their numbers). Certainly, there has been growth as well, likely both are factors, and there may be more. Caveats and considerations abound and will be discussed on the Sept. 25 NACEP Research Roundup, and likely until we see the next data set.
