The National Alliance for Caregiving is deeply concerned about the recently announced restructuring plan for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), particularly the dissolution of the Administration for Community Living (ACL), which has been the federal government’s primary advocate for older adults and people with disabilities. This reorganization raises serious questions about the continuity of care, program coordination, and maintaining focus on the unique needs of family caregivers. NAC urges the Administration to engage with stakeholders to ensure that these changes strengthen, rather than diminish, our national commitment to supporting family caregivers. Advancing family caregiving through research, advocacy, and innovation
关于我们
Established in 1996, The National Alliance for Caregiving is a non-profit coalition of national organizations focusing on issues of family caregiving. The Alliance was created to conduct research, do policy analysis, develop national programs, increase public awareness of family caregiving issues, work to strengthen state and local caregiving coalitions, and represent the US caregiving community internationally. Recognizing that family caregivers provide important societal and financial contributions toward maintaining the well-being of those they care for, the Alliance’s mission is to be the objective national resource on family caregiving with the goal of improving the quality of life for families and care recipients.

Medicaid is the primary funding mechanism for long-term care in the United States, ensuring care and support for millions of?Americans?across the country. Often, this care is delivered through?the valued partnership between direct care workers and family caregivers. With the direct care sector projected to add 860,000 new jobs by 2032 to meet growing demand, and family caregivers already providing unpaid care valued at $600 billion annually, we need to strengthen not weaken Medicaid. Cutting?Medicaid will fracture care delivery at precisely the wrong moment, bringing harm to millions of older adults and people with disabilities, while undermining the direct care workers and family caregivers who together make care possible. Protect Medicaid: our entire healthcare system and economy depend on it. #FamilyCaregivers #DirectCareWorkers #ProtectMedicaid #TogetherInCare #CaregiverNation?

Our CEO addresses the Social Security Administration’s new policy on how shifting to in-person or online identity verification could create delays and confusion for family caregivers, especially those supporting older adults or people with disabilities. With 47 field offices set to close and the phone option removed, these changes may lead to missed benefits and added stress for families already navigating complex care responsibilities.
