In honor of National Rural Health Day, NADTC celebrates the important role transportation plays in supporting the health and well-being of rural communities. Access to reliable transportation is essential for rural residents, especially older adults and individuals with disabilities, to connect with health care services, community programs and daily essentials. On this day, we highlight innovative transportation solutions that address the unique challenges of rural areas and continue working towards improving access for all.

Last month, we welcomed our newest Rural Transportation Planning Grantees for an in-depth orientation session. Today, NADTC’s Jeremy Johnson-Miller shared the stage with fellow Federal Transit Administration Technical Assistance centers at the 2024 National Transit Workforce Conference in Baltimore, MD. National RTAP, Shared-Use Mobility Center, National Center for Applied Transit Technology and the National Center for Mobility Management also provided updates and insights.

Exciting news! NADTC has awarded $412,448 in grants to support 12 rural communities as they develop transportation plans that prioritize accessibility and equity for older adults and people with disabilities. Through these grants, each community will work on identifying local transportation barriers and designing solutions that enhance mobility and independence for those in underserved areas.
