The NAI had the privilege of recently participating in the AUTM 2025 Annual Meeting, where we engaged in a dynamic panel discussion on recognizing and promoting academic inventors to drive innovation forward! The panel featured NAI President Dr. Paul R. Sanberg, FNAI; University of Maryland’s Dr. Ken Porter, SMNAI; Jackson State University’s Dr. Almesha L. Campbell, HonNAI, NAI Invention Ambassador; and NAI Board Member and the USPTO’s Elizabeth Dougherty, HonNAI. Together, we explored how universities can leverage NAI programs to enhance their technology transfer and innovation ecosystems through NAI Chapters, faculty recognition, and strategic partnerships. This year’s Padma Awards mark a historic recognition of leaders driving advancements in AI, semiconductors, and technology at scale. As the Director of the National Science Foundation (NSF), Dr. Panchanathan’s leadership has propelled investments in fundamental research, workforce development, and cutting-edge computational science initiatives, reinforcing AI's critical role in global research collaboration. Under his leadership, NSF established the U.S. National Science Foundation Directorate for Technology, Innovation and Partnerships (NSF TIP) to enhance U.S. competitiveness in the global market.
