The National Academy of Inventors? is a member organization comprising U.S. and international universities, and governmental and non-profit research institutes, with over 4,600 individual members, including Fellows, Senior Members, and Chapter Members, affiliated with more than 300 institutions worldwide. The NAI was founded in 2010 to recognize and encourage inventors with patents issued from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, enhance the visibility of academic technology and innovation, encourage the disclosure of intellectual property, educate and mentor innovative students, and to create wider public understanding of how its members’ inventions benefit society. NAI President Dr. Paul R. Sanberg, FNAI, was recently honored at The University of British Columbia's alumni UBC 2024 Achievement Awards, where he received the prestigious Alumni Achievement Award in Entrepreneurship. Dr. Sanberg was recognized for his transformative contributions to the innovation ecosystem, particularly through the founding of the National Academy of Inventors (NAI) and the lasting impact of his work on both local and global communities. Founded in 2010, the NAI has been at the forefront of supporting innovation from concept to commercialization. By highlighting the importance of institutional invention and its economic impact, the Academy honors visionary inventors and institutions making a difference in the world. With over 160 patents to his name, Dr. Sanberg is also the co-founder of two companies and two professional neuroscience societies. In addition, he serves as the founder and executive director of the University of South Florida’s Center of Excellence for Aging & Brain Repair.
