The National Academy of Construction will present three Ask Me Anything (AMA) webinars this Spring Semester with the first being held on February 20th. Moderated by Dr. Burcin Becerik-Gerber from the University of Southern California and Dr. Susan Bogus from The University of New Mexico. The theme for Spring 2025 is “Entrepreneurship in the design and construction industry” and features three NAC members who have been incredibly successful as entrepreneurs. Our first webinar will feature Tim McManus, FCMAA who will share his insights into entrepreneurship. He is the Managing Director at his firm, TCMcManus Consulting LLC. Tim is a global expert regarding the development and delivery of major capital projects and programs. Tim has served as a vice president at McKinsey & Company. Prior to McKinsey, he was the senior vice president and director of global program management for AECOM and was involved with major projects and programs such as Crossrail in London, the Jeddah Transportation Program, the London Olympics, the National Infrastructure Program for Libya, and Hurricane Sandy Recovery. He was appointed to the faculty of Columbia University’s School of Engineering as an adjunct associate professor. At the end of each webinar, students submitting a question prior to or during the webinar have the opportunity to win a $500 scholarship. Embedding Safety Culture in Undergraduate Education Symposia Series ? We would like to invite your attendance and participation in a series of symposia in 2025 sponsored by NAC and the National Academy of Engineering’s Board on Infrastructure and the Constructed Environment (BICE). The first series conducted in 2022-23 was very successful and resulted in a proceedings document (linked below) that gave guidance to academia and industry on how to influence academic curricula to incorporate safety culture in their curricula. This will be a great educational experience that will provide the opportunity to build networks with academics and industry professionals, share your knowledge with others, and to take knowledge back to your organization.? ? Our first symposium this year will be held in Washington DC on February 27th, sponsored by the National Academy of Engineering, NAC, and Virginia Tech. The agenda will include keynote speakers from both industry and academia as well as panel discussions with industry and academia about their perspectives on safety culture including what works well and what does not. ?
