Research Fellow Spotlight: Jeb Schwager Jeb is a second-year law student at Drake University Law School, where he expects to graduate in May 2026. Q1: Why are you interested in agricultural law? A: I grew up on a farm and have been involved in agriculture my whole life. I was attracted to the practice of law because of the affect that law has on agriculture, from policy and politics down to estate planning and land transactions. Especially coming from a rural community, the world of law and world of agriculture inevitably cross paths and my goal is to return home to fill a void with declining rural practices while connecting with and being a resource for local farmers. Q2: What are you most looking forward to about working for the NALC? A: Being able to dive in and be an objective resource for information on the ag law front to better educate others. Q3: What is the most interesting part of your background/life story? A: Shortly before graduating high school, I had no desire to attend college at all. However, I was involved with my local 4H and FFA, participating in livestock judging competitions. I was pushed by my ag teacher at the time to explore the opportunity to participate on the competitive livestock judging team at a community college a few hours from home. Upon my first visit, which the ag teacher drove me to, I was offered a scholarship to be on the livestock judging team there and reluctantly decided to attend solely based on that scholarship. Fast forward, I met my current fiancé at that community college, had enough livestock judging success there to be offered a scholarship from a university to pursue my bachelor's degree, and am currently attending law school because of the path that set me on. My ag teacher's zealous persistence that I take one visit to one community college has quite literally defined my entire life since.
