Dr. Niamh Nestor (she/her) is the Director of the Student Advisory Service in University College Dublin (UCD), Ireland. Niamh’s background is in sociolinguistics and migration; her doctoral research focused on language and integration among Polish children and teenagers who migrated to Ireland after Poland joined the European Union in 2004. ? In UCD, Niamh manages a team of seventeen student affairs professionals. Niamh is actively involved in the implementation of equality, diversity and inclusion initiatives in UCD. She co-chairs the UCD LGBTQIA+ committee and the UCD LGBTQIA+ Staff Network, and she is a member of the UCD Athena SWAN Committee. Niamh loves to contribute to the creation of community and a sense of belonging. She runs UCD Purl Jam, UCD’s craft/creative group, and is a member of the UCD Community Choir. ? She has a keen interest in languages. She completed her primary degree in French and Latin, spending a year in France on Erasmus during her undergrad studies. After completing a Masters in Linguistics, Niamh moved to Poland where she lived and worked for five years as a Teacher of English as a Second Language. Living abroad was transformative for Niamh's personal and professional life. Finally, she is an active member of Student Affairs Ireland, UKAT and NASPA.
