As we prepare for the holidays, we are all hearing and singing the familiar songs of the season. Next year, one of Nashville's most familiar and historic musical sounds will be heard in a new venue, and the international appeal of country music will be on display again. This fall, the Grand Ole Opry announced a shift in its musical setting, as the Opry will hold a performance at Royal Albert Hall in London next year, marking its first-ever show outside of the United States. “We’ve seen such an international adoption of the genre and an incredible level of interest on behalf of the music industry to also engage globally,” Patrick Moore, CEO of Opry Entertainment Group, told the Nashville Business Journal last month. “The exposure of the genre and the music and the talent and the artists has never been greater.”

Nashville Stars Baseball Advisor Don Mattingly, currently the Bench Coach of the Toronto Blue Jays, will be the featured speaker for the Nashville Old Timers Baseball Association’s annual banquet on January 19, 2025 at the Music City Sheraton. Even before?joining?the Stars as an advisor in January 2023, Mattingly was?quite familiar with the city and its baseball history. While starting at first base with the Double-A Nashville Sounds — then an affiliate of the New York Yankees — in 1981, Mattingly was named the Yankees’ Minor League Player of the Year as he helped lead the Sounds to a first-place finish in the Southern League’s West Division. Finding better ways to move our city's many visitors and residents from venue to venue, neighborhood to neighborhood and across our growing city has been a goal of Nashville's for years. Now, that transportation goal is in sight. Nashville is moving forward in a major way with its strong approval of the “Choose How You Move” transit plan introduced by Mayor Freddie O'Connell. The Nashville Stars join the broader community in thanking Mayor O'Connell for his leadership. With this growing pool of support, Nashville is well-positioned to serve residents and visitors, commuters and sports fans, offering a memorable experience wherever they travel in Music City.

Another airline is recognizing the value of Nashville International Airport - BNA for its business and its customers and will be expanding its international services through Nashville in the coming months. Following BNA's announcement of nonstop service to Frankfurt, Germany via Discover Airlines, and more recently to Reykjavík, Iceland and Dublin, Ireland, via Icelandair and Aer Lingus, respectively, that list is growing once again with news that Air Canada will expand its own service through Nashville next summer, thanks to increased flights connecting Nashville with Vancouver and Montreal.

“We are the ship … all else, the sea.” Quoting the description of the Negro Leagues delivered by Rube Foster, recognized by the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum as the “father of Black baseball,” Negro Leagues Baseball Museum president and Nashville Stars Baseball Club Board Member Bob Kendrick applauded the impact of the first Negro Leagues World Series and of the?Kansas City Monarchs, who in 1924 won that?championship. In a special interview with the Stars this week, Kendrick put a bow on this year of memorable World Series anniversaries with his stories of the Monarchs’ title and the impact of the 100th Anniversary at the museum.

Major League Baseball (MLB) just hit a grand slam — both in the United States and globally — with its viewership for the 2024 World Series. Here in the United States, the league announced that an average of 15.8 million people watched this year’s Fall Classic across all FOX platforms. That made the 2024 World Series the most-watched since 2017 and marked an increase of 67% from last year’s World Series. Increases were the theme of each individual World Series game in 2024 as well, as Forbes reported last week that every game delivered a double-digit growth in viewers from its corresponding game a season ago.
