Stand Tall for Giraffes ?? ?? At Nashville Zoo, we’re proud to support giraffe conservation at home and abroad. Recently, two of our Giraffe Keepers, Brittany and Jenna, traveled to Botswana to work with Save Giraffes Now, contributing to critical fieldwork to protect these majestic animals. Now, you can help too! Giraffe populations are declining due to habitat loss, poaching, and climate change. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has proposed federal protections under the Endangered Species Act to help save them. Why does this matter? ESA protections will: ?? Reduce illegal hunting and trade by requiring U.S. import permits. ?? Support conservation efforts in Africa through funding and research. ?? Raise awareness about the plight of giraffes and protect ecosystems where they thrive. Take Action: We encourage you to visit https://lnkd.in/gQyTuE2Z and share your support by clicking ‘Comment’ at the top of the page. Your voice can help protect these iconic animals! #GiraffeConservation #Nashville #Conservation

Our new Director of Corporate Partnerships, Brent Durham, and our Chief Development Officer, Beth Bush, had the pleasure of touring The ICEE Company yesterday! Thank you, Scott Logsdon and Lisa Underwood for your hospitality! What an incredible history your company has. We were inspired by your dedication to the many people who are a part of your team and ICEE family and honored by your longstanding partnership with Nashville Zoo! The Zoo could not continue serving the community without the generous support of companies just like The ICEE Company. ???? Exciting conservation news from Nashville Zoo! We’ve successfully shipped 1,200 Puerto Rican Crested Toad tadpoles to Puerto Rico to boost their population in the wild, while keeping 5 to help diversify the genetics of our breeding program here in Nashville. Since starting our breeding efforts in 2012, we’ve produced over 25,000 tadpoles for release! This initiative highlights the vital role zoos play in combining ex-situ conservation with in-situ impact. ?? Working with the Puerto Rican Crested Toad Conservancy, we aim to re-establish a self-sustaining population of this critically endangered species, whose survival is threatened by habitat loss, invasive species, and climate change. Happy World Okapi Day! ? Say hello to Mosi the okapi! ?? He arrived at Nashville Zoo earlier this year and has been settling into his new home behind the scenes. While the stripes on their hindquarters and front legs may look like a zebra’s, okapi are actually the only living relatives of giraffes. These rare animals are found only in the deep forests of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and are so elusive that scientists didn’t even know they existed until 1901! ??? Although a respected cultural symbol of the only country in which it is found, the okapi’s livelihood is threatened by slash-and-burn agriculture, illegal gold mining, and bushmeat poaching, despite its protected status since 1933. At Nashville Zoo, we work to raise awareness of this issue and protect this magnificent species. Learn more about Mosi in the video below! Celebrate World Okapi Day by booking a Backstage Pass to meet Mosi here: https://lnkd.in/g-merKgi #WorldOkapiDay #WOD2024 #Nashville #NashvilleZoo #Conservation
